Summary

Description

The monument comprises a cairn of prehistoric date, visible as a stony mound.

The monument lies in the grounds of Glendelvine House, at around 50m OD. It consists of a circular mound measuring about 25m in diameter and about 1.2m in maximum height.

The cairn is a burial mound of a type characteristic of the Bronze Age. Several other cairns of similar date can be found in the vicnity.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the cairn and an area around it within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 50m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract. The above-ground remains of the iron fence which surrounds the site are excluded from the scheduling.

Statement of National Importance

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric funerary and ritual practices. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
