Description
The monument consists of a small prehistoric fort, set on a low ridge
N of Drummoral.
The fort has been created by the enclosure of a flat-topped rocky
ridge some 100m long. The flat top of the ridge is crossed by two ditches with an intervening rampart. The inner ditch is partly rock-
cut and 35m in length. It is 10m across and 2.2m deep. The outer
ditch is only 4m wide, and is much shallower. The area enclosed is rather irregular; its NE portion is fairly flat, consisting of two
areas approximately 12m N-S by 15m, one lower than the other, beyond which the top of the ridge falls away to the SW. Very slight traces
of walls around the top of the promontory survive, particularly on
the SE side.
The area to be scheduled is irregular, defined by the foot of the
slope on the SE, SW and NW sides and on the NE by a line 30m beyond
the outer ditch. This includes the fort, its outer defences and the outer slopes of the ridge on which it stands. The area, which has maximum dimensions of 100m ENE-WSW by 50m, is marked in red on the accompanying map.
