Description
Earlier-mid 19th century with variously dated additions and alterations. Crowstepped farmhouse to E with cowshed range projecting to N forming one angle of courtyard; L-plan range to NW comprising former cartshed and later, brick stables, forming other side of courtyard. Gateway to farmhouse with flanking crowstepped-gabled ranges to SW.
FARMHOUSE: 2-storey, 4-bay near symmetrical, rectangular-plan farmhouse with castellated entrance porch to centre. Harled with ashlar dressings. Base course; strip quoins.
S (PRINCIPAL, EXTERNAL) ELEVATION: 3-bay porch with replacement part-glazed architraved door with flanking windows spanning bay to centre; window at 1st floor above. Window, not aligned, at each floor in bay to outer right. Non-aligned windows at each floor in each bay to left.
N (COURTYARD) ELEVATION; irregularly fenestrated with high crowstepped projection in bay to centre and single storey piended addition to right.
12-pane timber sash and case windows with hopper replacements to porch. Grey slate roof; ashlar coped stacks to W and to ridge; replaced harled stack to E; cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.
GATEWAY AND FLANKING RANGES: channelled cream sandstone ashlar round-arched gateway set between crowstepped ranges; free capitals flanking with triglyphs and alternating rose motifs above to W side; centred square-plan ogee-roofed bellcote above. Plain sandstone rubble to E (rear) side.
RANGE TO S: rectangular-plan snecked rubble shed with ashlar dressings and droved crowsteps; long and short quoins. Window (blocked) to W elevation with circular opening above. Raggle evident between. Doorway (boarded) with window flanking to S elevation.
Grey slate roof with flush roof light to S ; scrolled skewputts.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.
RANGE TO N: similar treatment to above with door and 2 flanking windows to N elevation.
INTERIOR: open-beam, timber roof with timber framed partitions.
COWSHED RANGE: free-standing gable-ended cowshed forming E range of courtyard. Cream sandstone rubble with stugged ashlar dressings.
COURTYARD ELEVATION: largely blank wall with doorway, (blocked) to right and doorway to outer right; ventilation holes along remainder of wall.
EXTERNAL ELEVATION: window in bay to centre. Boarded door in bay to left. window (blocked) in bay to right.
Modern roof covering; ashlar skews to N.
CARTSHED AND STABLE RANGE: cream sandstone rubble cartshed range to N with integrated brick stable range at right angles to W.
COURTYARD ELEVATION: 2 segmental former cart arches set close to internal angle; window to right; wide square-headed doorway to outer right. Irregular stable door and window openings to W range.
Grey slate roof with 2-pane flush roof lights; ashlar skews to E end; cast-iron rainwater goods.
