Possibly James Matthews, circa 1859. 24-bay terrace comprising 12 single storey and attic, 2-bay mirrored cottages, later additions and alterations. Tooled coursed pink granite with polished sandstone dressings, some painted. Base course; pilastered architraved doorways; panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights, replacement to Nos 6, 8 and 10; architraved window openings; eaves course; piend roofed canted dormers to attic floor.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: near-symmetrical; doorways to centre to bays of each pair, flanked to outer left and right by single window, dormer above to attic floor, irregularly placed modern and 2-pane skylights; rectangular dormer additions to attic above doorways at Nos 6, 14, 16 and 18; small gableted dormers with 4-pane windows to Nos 22 and 24.

E ELEVATION: asymmetrical; gabled; window to centre and right of ground floor, single storey addition adjoining to outer right.

N ELEVATION: irregularly placed windows and doors, canted dormers to attic, variety of later additions and alterations.

W ELEVATION: symmetrical; gabled; 2 windows to ground floor, round-arched window centred above.

2-pane and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, modern glazing to Nos 6, 16 and 20. Purple-grey slate roof with tiled ridge. Coped gablehead and ridge stacks with predominantly octagonal cans. Coped stone skews with blocked skewputts. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen (1999).

BOUNDARY WALLS: low granite boundary walls, some surmounted by railings to S; coped rubble walls incorporating garages and outbuildings to N, W and E.

Statement of Special Interest

Good terrace of cottages, similar to those in Victoria Street (see separate listings, Harlaw Ward), and typical of Aberdeen. Slightly marred by the later rectangular dormer additions. The sandstone dressings are quite unusual for Aberdeen, where the majority of buildings are granite throughout.
