Summary

Description

The monument consists of a small drystone fortification, or dun, of later prehistoric date, situated upon a small island. It is heavily overgrown, but apppears to be oval in plan, 16m E-W by 14m N-S, with traces of an outer wall-face showing at several points. A variety of later structures, all now ruined, have been built upon the site.

The area to be scheduled consists of the whole of the small island, and is approximately 40m E-W by 35m N-S, as shown in red on the accompanying map.

Statement of National Importance

This monument is of national importance as an example of a typical later prehistoric defensive settlement, and for the evidence which it may provide, through excavation, for domestic and defensive architecture and domestic economy during this period.
