Summary

Description

Probably Burn and Bryce, earlier to mid 19th century, 20th century addition to rear. Single storey gabled lodge house with Aytoun family coat-of-arms. Dressed ashlar with polished margins. Base course. Hoodmoulds, chamfered arrises and stone mullions.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: slightly advanced gabled porch to right of centre with timber door, eroded panel above in stepped hoodmould and smaller blind (possibly eroded) panel in gablehead; broader gable to left of centre with canted quadripartite window over fielded aprons, concave moulded chamfers and coat-of arms in gablehead.

W ELEVATION: advanced gable to right of centre with hoodmoulded bipartite window at centre, blind (eroded?) panel in gablehead; recessed bay to left with narrow window; modern extension adjoining to outer right.

E ELEVATION: broad gable with quadripartite canted window; modern extension adjoining to outer left.

Modern plate glass glazing throughout. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stack with cans; deeply overhanging eaves, plain bargeboarding and bossed pendants.

BOUNDARY WALLS: coped rubble boundary walls.

Statement of Special Interest

According to Groome the former mansion of Inchdairnie (burnt down 1931) was "beautifully situated, standing in ornamental, well-timbered grounds", the property of Roger Sinclair Aytoun (born 1823). The 1st OS map shows Inchdairnie House, The Barns, East and West Lodges all within the Park, this lodge (formerly East Lodge) is the only remaining 3-dimensional evidence.

Listed building consent is required for changes to a listed building which affect its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest. The relevant planning authority is the point of contact for applications for listed building consent.
