Summary

Description

Early to earlier 19th century, minor 20th century alterations.

2 storey, 5 bay, rectangular plan, piend and platform roofed house. Random whinstone rubble with contrasting ashlar sandstone dressings and quoins strips. Eaves course.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Deep set, part glazed timber door with small pane fanlight in broad pilastered and corniced doorcase at centre, windows in flanking bays and regular fenestration at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: small modern porch off centre right, window beyond to right, window (altered door) in penultimate bay and blinded window to outer right; piend roofed porch off centre left and further window in bay to outer left. Margined stair window at centre and bipartite window to outer bays at 1st floor.

E ELEVATION: altered window at ground right, 2 windows at 1st floor, that to left blind. Boundary wall abutting at outer left.

W ELEVATION: window slapping to left at ground and French window slapping in bay to right, 2 windows at 1st floor, that to right false. Boundary wall abutting at outer left.

8 and 12 pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows (those to S lying pane) except ground floor W with small pane glazing in casement windows, and ground floor E with plate glass glazing in modern window. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with clay cans.

INTERIOR: drawing room with decorative cornicing, husk garlanded frieze and centre rose. Inner hall with panelled arch and ceiling; curving staircase with decorative cast iron baluster and timber handrail. Decorative plasterwork and shutters.

BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEPIERS AND GATES: coped rubble boundary walls and saddleback coped, squared rubble boundary walls. Coped ashlar gatepiers and decorative cast iron gates.

Statement of Special Interest

1st OS gives alternative names ?The Maw? or ?Woodbank?. Originally belonging to the Wemyss Estate, Woodbank was the dower house, passing as dowry to the farmer of nearby Little Lun (listed separately). Valuation Rolls for 1875 6 list John Landale, Dunfermline banker, as proprietor and occupier of Woodbank which was purchased (together with Little Lun) by the family of the current owners in 1920.

Listed building consent is required for changes to a listed building which affect its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest. The relevant planning authority is the point of contact for applications for listed building consent.
