Description
The monument consists of a prehistoric long cairn which is about 42m long and up to 19m wide, with a prominent round mound situated at its
N end. This round mound is a round cairn, about 19m in diameter and
1.8m high, which appears to have been opened and robbed in the
centre. The stones of an entrance passageway and of a two-compartment chamber are visible from the top of the round mound. The remaining section of the long cairn is a maximum of 0.5m high and has been disturbed to the S by ploughing connected with forestry planting.
Stones which have probably been removed from the cairn have been used
in the construction of a building, the foundations of which stand to
the SE end of the round cairn.
The area to be scheduled measures a maximum of 60m S-N by 50m W-E, to include the long cairn and an area around it in which traces of activities associated with its construction and use may survive, as shown in red on the attached map.
