Description
The monument consists of a broch, or large circular drystone
building, on a low knoll in Skelbo Wood. The broch is in the centre
of a walled enclosure and associated with a smaller enclosure immediately to its E.
The remains of the large circular building consist of a overgrown
stone wall about 15m in diameter. No inner or outer wall faces are evident and there is no evidence for cells, or spaces, within the
wall of the building. An enclosure is formed by a wall which is
located at a distance of about 8m from the circular building. There
is an entrance through this enclosure wall on its WSW side. To the E
of the enclosure, the wall has been levelled and a circular enclosure created; this circular enclosure is about 14m in diameter.
The area to be scheduled measures 65m in diameter, to include the circular building, the surrounding enclosure, the small circular enclosure and an area around in which traces of activities associated with the construction and use of the monument may survive, as shown
in red on the accompanying map.
