Description
Mostly built first half of 19th century. Walled garden
incorporating Garden Cottage at E, stables E range (now
Stables Cottage) at W. Rubble-built with ashlar dressings;
slated roofs.
GARDEN: unusual roughly keyholed-shaped plan, ashlar-coped
walls, enclosure entered on N and S walls; steps and
serpentine quadrants at E near Garden Cottage.
GARDEN COTTAGE: E facing; curved on plan, following line of
garden wall, main eaves level full-height of garden wall.
Single storey and attic; 3 bays. Central door with fanlight,
swept roofed dormer over; outer bays have gabled dormers with
cills breaking through eaves. Sash windows. Straight skews;
end stacks. Original flanking bays demolished; symmetrical
low wings to be added and rear elevation to be altered circa
1987 by A C Wolffe.
STABLES: 3 ranges built around courtyard; E range - now a
2-storey house, (W) elevation to court now much altered with
inserted tripartite windows, small-pane glazing pattern.
Detached ranges are parallel, and with piended roofs at E;
range to N (built of cherry-caulked rubble) a tall long barn
with slit ventilators at W and square-headed openings; range
to S (kennels) with plain N wall to court, bays with stone
piers full-length of S wall.
