Description
Dated 1732 and 1887, Laird's house with additions, 1851 by A
and W Reid; further substantial additions, 1887. S facing 2-
storey and attic, 5-bay house with flanking lower wings
forming shallow U-plan. Tooled, squared grey granite frontage
with ashlar granite dressings. Harl pointed granite rubble
flanks and rear.
Slightly advanced and pedimented centre bay to main house
with rusticated quoins and corniced, lugged and moulded
doorpiece to centre entrance. Round-headed keystoned window
above; coat of arms in pediment with terminal and apex
pineapple finials.
Narrow ground floor windows with (1732) moulded surrounds;
single 19th century tripartites flank centre bay in 1st
floor; pair small gabled dormers. Rusticated granite quoins
to angles, moulded detailing to base course and eaves
cornice.
Single storey and attic, 3-bay block advanced at left (W) to
form arm of court linked to main house by curved single
storey quadrant corridor. E wing of similar proportions with
later enlarged dormers and quadrant area infilled with 2-
storey extension.
Coped end stacks with original moulded copes to main house;
similar re-modelled stacks to flanking wings.
2 2-storey and attic wings project at rear linked by single
storey lean-to.
2- and 12-pane glazing; local graded slate roofs.
INTERIOR: largely re-modelled in 1887. Centre stairwell with
slender turned balusters.
