Description

William Adam 1736. Ashlar, 25 square (stucco on north wall) with Ionic Venetian entrance. The mausoleum originally had a stone roof but this leaked and was replaced the a slated pyramid roof (still present) which is truncated at the top with a sculptured urn.

Statement of Special Interest

According to Reid the last internment was Duke in 1836. The Montrose family lived at Kincardine, sold early in the 19th century.

Ecc. Arch. v.III p.485 gives inscription on N. wall as

John Adam fecet 1736'. Only the lower part can now be

read. Presumably William's eldest son, then aged 15, being

allowed to try his hand.
