Summary

Description

William Kelly, 1887. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay villa. Coursed rough-faced granite finely finished to margins. Dark grey granite base course; sloping cills; overhanging eaves; timber bargeboards.

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; doorway reached by stone steps to centre of ground floor, panelled timber door with letterbox fanlight, relieving arch with keystone detail above doorway; window to 1st floor above; canted 3-light window to ground floor of flanking bay to left, tripartite window to 1st floor above, with gablet breaking eaves, blind cartouche set in gablehead; gabled bay to right slightly advanced; canted window through ground and 1st floors with ogee leaded roof, oculus set in gablehead; modern skylights to attic floor.

NE ELEVATION: gabled; doorway to ground floor, round-arched window above; advanced bay adjoining to outer right.

NW ELEVATION: not seen 2000.

SW ELEVATION: gabled; with flat-roofed addition to left.

2-pane timber sash and case windows to ground floor, small-pane upper sashes to 1st floor. Grey slate roof with lead ridges. Corniced gablehead stacks and octagonal stack breaking pitch to SE, with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative hoppers.

INTERIOR: not seen 2000.

BOUNDARY WALL: low coped granite boundary walls to SE.

Statement of Special Interest

Well designed late 19th century villa by William Kelly (1861-1944). Details of particular note include the octagonal stack breaking pitch, and canted window with leaded ogee roof.
