Description

Early 18th century with later additions and alterations. 2 storey, 3 bay rectangular plan farmhouse. Tooled random rubble with droved dressings. Long and short tooled quoins with droved margins.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; late 20th century gabled porch with purple grey slate roof, advanced to centre of ground; glazed timber door; single pane windows to left and right returns; concrete sills and lintels; windows to flanking bays; regular fenestration to 1st floor. Single storey, 2 bay 19th century addition to outer right; timber door to right; window to left; piended slate roof.

E ELEVATION: ground floor obscured by 2 bay 19th century addition; regular fenestration to each bay; 1st floor blank.

N ELEVATION: symmetrical, 3 bay; infilled doorway to centre of ground; single windows to flanking bays; window to centre of 1st floor; 19th century addition to outer left, partially obscured by 20th century tank. Lean to addition to outer right.

W ELEVATION: not seen 1997.

Predominantly 12 pane timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slate roof with lead ridge; ashlar skews. Droved coped ashlar gablehead stacks with circular cans; harled wallhead stack E of 19th century addition. Cast iron rainwater goods.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: droved, coped sandstone gatepiers with pyramidal caps; modern ironwork gates. Random rubble boundary walls with rubble coping.

Statement of Special Interest

Farms appear to have been operating on the sites of Arniston Mains and the Home Farm (see separate listing) since the 17th century.
