Description

Early 19th century, altered. 2-storey, 3-bay, L-plan house in prominent and critically sited position overlooking harbour. Rendered with raised margins.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Modern door to centre bay at ground with small window above, enlarged bipartite windows in flanking bays at each floor, and 2 modern rooflights.

N ELEVATION: gabled elevation with small window to left of centre at ground and outer right chamfered angle corbelled to square above ground.

Out-of character modern glazing throughout. Grey slates. Coped rendered stacks with cans. Ashlar-coped skews.

Statement of Special Interest

Spatially an important element in the old Shorehead area of Stonehaven's harbour, No 18 is situated adjacent to the three storey former warehouse which is now Aberdeen Yacht Club and is also a listed building. As an early domestic structure, the building retains interest in its distinctive massing as part of the streetscape viewed from across the harbour at the Old Pier. Although the windows were enlarged prior to original listing (in 1980), they were timber sash and case at that time. Then as now (2005) the subject is listed for its group value.
