Summary

Description

John Kinross, circa 1895. Single storey kennels comprised of taller gabled boiler-house and lower kennels range at right angles. Rake jointed sandstone with ashlar dressings; roll-moulded surrounds to openings, and roll-moulded eaves course.

BOILER-HOUSE: to NW of kennels range. Gable to SW with high window in high-relief, moulded surround with curved trapezoid panel above, scroll-leaf-flanked, depicting entwined oak branches and initials ?IPM? (James Percy Miller). NE gable with segmental-carriage-arch in moulded surround, 2-leaf timber doors, and small window in gablehead above. NW elevation with paired doors to centre and left with linking cornice. SE elevation abutted to right by kennels range, window to left.

KENNELS RANGE: 4 irregularly-spaced doors to SW elevation (grouped 2-1-1) with doors and low, stone enclosures to runs with battered aslar coping. NE elevation with 3 narrow windows in high-relief surrounds. SE gable with deep base course linking with enclosure walls and with small gablehead window with high-relief surround.

Small-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, 1 4-pane, kennel windows, plate glass sash and case. Grey slates. Crowstepped gables with beak skewputts. Ashlar ridge stach to gig house with battered ashlar coping. Ashlar ridges.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

Statement of Special Interest

The Gamekeeper?s Cottage lies close-by to W, across a lawn. The kennels for the Berwickshire Hunt lie to S at Brieryhill.
