Description
Possibly David and James Hamilton, Architects. Earlier
19th century Tudor Gothic asymmetrical house, 2 storey
over basement on battered plinth. Polished ashlar. South
elevation 4 bays wide, Tudor-arched entrance with hood-mould
and crenellated blocking course. Canted ground floor window
in gabled right bay with Gothic traceried upper lights;
crenellated parapet; tripartite above. Tall, 8-pane
sashes in 2 recessed bays to left; 1st floor windows with
lying-pane glazing, blind window to left. Cornice, 2 pairs
of octagonal wall-head stacks on corbelled plinths.
Recessed modern single storey 3-bay extension to east is
harled, with crenellations. Similarly detailed west
elevation has 5 bays, right bays advanced and gabled canted
windows to each floor at right, upper windows set back;
left bay advanced with canted ground floor window, upper
sashes with Gothic tracery; 1st floor window in shallow
advanced bay with crest in central pediment above parapet.
Cornice and crenellated parapet over inner bays. All single
windows with hood-moulds, crests in gables and decorative
stone finials. Clustered ridge stacks.
Slate roof. Built on raised terrace with vermiculated
retaining wall and pierced balustrade. Chamfered square
corniced gatepiers
