Description

1757. Georgian. Long block with wing a rear on Dalmally

Rd. 3 storeys. Fluted ashlar, painted; gabled; slate

roofs. Semi-circular stair towers, with semi-conical

roofs at rear and on Dalmally Rd. 2 storey piended

extension on The Avenue; rendered and harled.

Statement of Special Interest

Originally called The Inveraray Inn and built by 3rd

Duke to house his guests. Dr. Johnson and Boswell stayed

here in October 1773 on their way back from the

Hebrides; Burns in June 1787 during his first Highland

tour; William and Dorothy Wordsworth in August 1803.

Southey, Rickman and Telford in September 1819. Damaged

by fire C. 1955.
