Description

Later 18th century and early 19th century probably

incorporating earlier fabric, with minor alterations dating

from circa 1864. Long 2-storey and attic, 6-bay south facing

range. All white harled. Projecting lean-to porches linked

by continuous slated canopy mask entrances in 2nd and 5th

bays. 4 large piended wallhead dormers (probably 1864).

Mainly 12-pane glazing. Semi-circular outshot with bowed

piended slated roof masks entrance and staircase to 1st

floor in west gable. Long single storey byre range also

extends from east gable. Further, single storey, 2-bay

extension projects at rear.

End, ridge and rear wallhead stacks, all with exaggerated

copes dating from circa 1864; slate roofs.

Statement of Special Interest

Home farm to Arisaig Estate. Prince Charles Edward stayed at

Borrodale after his landing nearby, in the summer of 1745.

Early house burnt down after Culloden, 1746. Stables (Philip

Webb, 1864) to rear of house.
