Description
J B Wilson, 1897. Late Gothic church. Nave, aisles,
clerestorey, short (ritual) E and W transepts. Red,
rock-faced rubble with ashlar dressings 2-storeys, lower
2-storey halls to W.
ENTRANCE ELEVATION (LITURGICAL W) TO LAWRENCE STREET:
buttressed. Ribbed, arched, gabled double entrance with
central niche and sculpted tympanum, vesica. 2 W
tripartite wiondows with cusping, set in moulded arches,
vesica. Elliptically-arched ground floor windows set in
arches, repeated in central hall doorway with 3 arched
windows over. Attached polygonal, independently-roofed
turret with cusped eaves windows, finial.
HALL: plain lancet windows set in arch over 2 4-light
windows with relieving arches. Roof-lantern with finial.
E ELEVATION TO ELIE STREET: cusped lancets in transepts
single-light W, 2-light E. Small 4-light windows to aisles,
bipartite cusped lancets to clerestorey. Single entrance
bay set back to E end with moulded, arched doorway.
