Description
Mid 19th century. Italianate villa with conservatory to S and
projecting single storey service wing to E. 2-storeys,
polished ashlar, painted porch.
E Elevation, 3 irregular bays; advanced centre bay with
rusticated quoins; recessed entrance bay to right. Single
storey Roman Doric porch with mutule cornice; pierced ashlar
die parapet. Arched pilastered doorpiece, double-leaf
panelled doors. Above door, single moulded arched window with
engaged column reveals. Centre bay; boldly projecting 3-light
canted window to ground with pilaster mullions and mutule
cornice supporting blind traceried balustrade to 5-light
arcaded bow window above with engaged column mullions. To
left, at ground, aproned window architraved with consoled
cornice, supporting traceried ashlar, balustrade. To 1st
floor, arched columned bipartite window; plate glass sashes.
Angle margins continue into eaves course with shouldered
angles. Bracketted eaves, corniced axial and wallhead stacks;
cans mostly lotus or octagonal. N flank polished ashlar, S
flank droved ashlar, simpler details.
Timber and cast-iron framed conservatory projects to S
acid-etched communicating door to main house.
Stugged coursed ashlar rear elevation, altered circa 1980 for
give access to top flat by external flight of steps to low
doorway at 1st floor partially re-using arched stair-light
window. Projecting single-storey laundry/service wing.
