H and D Barclay architects, 1913. Symmetrical courtyard-plan
college with gable details. 3-storeys with taller terminal
bays and central emphasis. 31 bays arranged 3-10-5-10-3 with
taller central pavilion with 4-storey tower to outer bays.
Bull-faced sandstone base course, stugged red sandstone upper
courses, polished margins and quoins.
Central pavilion with canted windows to outer tower-bays
rising to 3 storeys; semi-circular windows to 3rd floor set
in square corniced towers with parapet; above rise lead
spires. Inner 3 bays surmounted by pinnacled pediment. To
ground, steps to 3 square-headed doorways, centre bay flanked
by engaged columns all set in polished masonry. 1st and 2nd
floor windows bipartite. Outer 3-bay pavilions with 2-storey
canted window to centre, 3 single transomed windows to 2nd
and tripartite attic windows set in gable over centre bay.
Otherwise depressed-arch windows throughout to ground floor,
tripartite mullioned and transomed to 1st and 2nd.
Continuous moulded band course over ground and at 1st floor
cills. Deep parapet with gablet-finials, slate roofs.
Flanks similarly detailed 13 bays aranged 3-7-3. Off-centre
depressed arch pend to courtyard.
