Description
Stewart and Paterson, 1902-5. 2nd pointed Gothic. Cruciform
plan, with aisled nave, SW tower. Bull-nosed masonry with
ashlar dressings. Buttresses boldly stepped to W. Plinth.
Geometrical tracery with cusping to main windows.
MAIN ENTRANCE TO W: simple ribbed pedimented moulded and
gabled entrance with nook shafts and 2-light narrow sidelights;
6-light traceried window above; vesica in gable head.
TOWER: 2 stage with spire, hoodmoulded, arched entrance
to S. 2-light window to E. Simple 2-light windows above.
Ashlar bellcote stage with clocks. Corbel table, panelled
shallow crenellated parapet. Tiled facetted needle spire
with flamboyant lucarnes.
ELEVATION TO S: projecting aisle with 2-light arched
windows. 3 3-light clerestory windows. Transept with 2
2-light arched windows. Entrance with niche above in E
bay.
INTERIOR: N arcade. Transept gallery. Narrow N aisle.
Waggon roof with corbelled pendants. Carved pulpit. Stained
glass E window.
HALLS: 4-bay single storey W section linking church to
halls with elliptically arched entrances in outer bays.
Simple 3-light W window of hall, cusped, taller central
window. 5-bay return to N: 4 2-light arched windows.
Projecting E gable with flat 3-light windows at 1st floor
in relieving arch. Central bellcote. Slate roof.
REAR ELEVATION OF HALLS INCLUDING CARETAKER'S HOUSE: 2
storeys. Corbelled oriel at 1st floor.
INTERIOR OF HALL: timber trussed roof.
