Description
J F Matthew, 1931, added to hall of 1925 (Jeffrey
Waddell). Round-arched with Gothic detailing; nave
tower, tanseptal side chapels. Snecked rubble,
buttressed.
TALL SADDLE-BACK E TOWER (liturgical W) with gabletted
crow-stepped gables and apex pediments. Entrance with
shaped lintel to S face. Narrow loophole windows to
E, tall continuous, round-arched architraved panel
over louvred for bellcote at upper part.
ELEVATION TO S: 4 regular simple round-arched narrow
windows flanked by short parapet sections with 2 and
3-light windows, oval window lighting chancel.
ELEVATION TO W: (liturgical E) narrow window, oculus in
gable.
Simply-detailed attached halls to W, L-plan.
ELEVATION TO N: semi-engaged turret with pepper-pot roof
to E; 3 transeptal chapels.
INTERIOR: rock-faced, snecked rubble. N arcade
elliptically arched with W gallery with carved timber
front. Timber chancel fittings, furniture, pulpit and
lectern. Marble font. 3-light stained glass chancel
window, S and E (W) wall by Alexander Russell (Dundee).
