Description
Mid to later 19th century villa on prominent site. 2 storeys
and attic asymmetrically planned with jacobean detailing.
Squared, snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. W facing
entrance front, off-centre projecting entrance bay with
single storey porch (a later addition), shallow projecting
bay to S with 4-light mullion and transome windows to each
floor, shaped gable set back behind balustrade. S (garden)
front 4 bays, 2 outer wider, the W with 5-light canted
window, the E 4-light squared projection, both 2-storey.
Recessed 2-bay centre with ground floor opening onto curved
balustraded terrace with steps to the garden; boldly consoled
balcony to 1st floor between advanced bays. Outer bays with
shaped gabled. Decorative balustrade to E, S and W off-set
corniced chimney stacks, gable head and ridge. All windows
mullioned and transomed or transomed 1 to 5 lights. Low
service range to E.
Interior retains fine timber stair and landing, with stained
glass windows at half-landing; original plaster work and
some chimneypieces. Panelled and ball finialled gate piers to
pedestrian and carriage entrances.
