Description

Probably John C Hay 1880. 4-storey Baronial corner tenement with angle turret and shop at ground floor. Squared and snecked cream sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. Cornice above shopfronts; cornice above 2nd floor; corbel table at 3rd floor stepped down to 2nd floor to E, and forming segmental-arched hood to 1st floor window to N; chamfered reveals; 3rd floor windows breaking eaves.

E MARCHMONT CRESCENT elevation: shopfronts largely altered at ground; foliate capitals to dividing pilasters. 3-bay above ground floor, excluding angle bay. Tripartite windows at 1st and 2nd floors in bay to outer left; bipartite at 3rd floor with crowstepped dormerhead; blank rectangular panel set in dormerhead. Single windows in 2nd bay; crowstepped dormerheads linked to wallhead stack. Bipartite windows in 3rd bay; pedimented dormerhead to 3rd floor. Square blank panel to outer right.

N WARRENDER PARK ROAD elevation: largely altered shopfronts at ground; 5-bay above, including angle bay. Bipartite windows in 1st (angle) bay; hoodmoulding to 1st floor window; circular-section above eaves; cornice to conical roof; iron finial. Bipartite windows in 3rd and 5th bays; crostepped dormerheads to 3rd floor windows. Single windows in 2nd and 4th bays; pedimented dormerheads with stone finials to 3rd floor windows. Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; 2 corniced wallhead stacks to E; corniced mutual stacks; crowstepped mutual gables adjoining tenements to S and W; bracketted skewputts.

INTERIORS: not seen 1991.
