Description
Later 19th century asymmetrical 2-storey mansion with
French 2nd Empire features; early 19th century house
incorporated at W corner. Red ashlar with rusticated
quoins, band courses at ground and 1st floors; cornice
and blocking course; corniced stacks. SW elevation:
3-window entrance pavilion, segmentally pedimented
projecting porch with swagged Ionic pilasters, sculptured,
flanking ground floor windows, shaped gablet with
roundel and big French pavilion roof above. 2-bay
pedimented gable end of original house to left, recessed
link with 2-storey canted bay to broad square-plan wing
on right, pediments containing roundels rise above main
cornice. 2 bipartite windows over 4-light canted bay to
front, 2 blind single-lights over bipartites on flank.
Wide semi-circular arched gateway, with tall keyblock
projecting through pediment above, leads to service yard
at rear (E). Heavy bracketted hoods to ground floor
windows. NW frontage, 6 irregular bays, single-storey
rectangular bay formerly connecting to glazed porch.
