Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay villa. W and N elevations finely stugged ashlar, remaining elevations rubble; ashlar dressings. Base course. Eaves course, cornice and felted blocking course to W. Raised long and short quoins. Stop-chamfered reveals.

W (ESKBANK ROAD) ELEVATION: bracketted segmental pediment above moulded shouldered-arched doorway at centre, with keystone and raised surround; panelled door and plate glass fanlight. Bipartite window at centre at 1st floor, with shield motif above each light. Full-height canted window in bay to left; band course stepped over blank panels to aprons of 1st floor windows and keystone above centre window. Full-height advanced panel in bay to right; deeply stop-chamfered angles on both floors; tripartite window at ground; Venetian window at 1st floor, with keystoned centre light and shield motif above outer lights; band course stepped over panelled apron.

N (WAVERLEY ROAD) ELEVATION: full-height advanced panel at centre; window with broadly stop-chamfered jambs at ground; oriel window at 1st floor, corbelled to square, with moulded course below window; eaves cornice and French pavilion roof, with elaborate weathervaned brattishing.

E ELEVATION: door and flanking window at centre; tall segmental-arched stair window above, with window-guard. Outer bays fenestrated.

S ELEVATION: window to right of centre at 1st floor. Single-storey half-piended service blocks adjointed at ground.

Largely plate glass glazing pattern in sash and case windows, some 4

and small-pane glazing; coloured border glazing to stair window. Grey slates to piend and platform roof. Shouldered wallhead stacks with buckled quoin detailing, to left and right to N and S. Flat-roofed dormer window to E pitch. Original decorative twisted cans to W. Original rainwater goods.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: semicircular and flat coped rubble walls; pyramidal capped gatepiers.
