Description

Mid to later 19th century. 2-storey with part basement on ground falling to E, 4-bay, T-plan Tudor gabled house. Stugged ashlar with droved quoins and margins, base course and eaves course; hoodmoulds with label-stops, stone mullions and deeply chamfered arrises.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: bays stepping back from left to right with small projecting gable to left of centre, window to both floors, panelled door in return to right under small window; large projecting gable to outer left with windows to both floors: lower roofline to right with gabled stone dormer, window at ground, further window to outer right in tall single storey bay.

E ELEVATION: advanced gable to right with canted window at ground over basement, window above; tall single storey bays recessed to left with 2 windows to left (1 enlarged) and window to right (stair?) close to eaves, modern flat-roofed dormers; basement with 2 windows to left and door to right behind lean-to greenhouse in re-entrant.

N ELEVATION: centre off-set and shouldered full-height stack with windows in flanking bays at ground and basement level.

S ELEVATION: bipartite window at ground with window above.

12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and windows to principal elevation, plate glass glazing to E in modern windows except canted window with sash and case frames. Grey slates. Stacks with flat ashlar coping, all with cans, some grooved between flues; ashlar coped skews with cushion skewputts and pyramidal finials.

BOUNDARY AND TERRACE WALLS AND PIERS: low coped ashlar boundary walls to W, random rubble with semi-circular coping to N and S. Terrace wall to sea with pedestrian gate and stone forestair. Pyramidally capped ashlar terminal piers to W.

Statement of Special Interest

Mirrored pair with Victoria Cottage built as residences for railway employees. Sited prominently overlooking the bay.
