Description

Charles Steven,architect for himself.2-storey and attic detached villa on corner site.Rock-faced rubble with ashlar dressings,including 1st floor cill course.Single-storey and attic rear wing to N in Aberdeen bond.Low slated piend roof,with paired timber brackets tooverhanging eaves.Tall,raked end stacks.Sash and case glazing,mostly with plate glass lower and 4-paned upper sashes.

E ENTRANCE elevation:3-bay.Entrance in wide ashlar corniced and architraved doorcase at centre,bipartite at 1st floor above.To left,bipartites at ground and 1st floors,eaves line broken by open pediment,raked stack rising behind.To right,projecting 6-light canted bay window,with rock-faced plinth,ashlar mullions and parapet.Long horizontal window at 1st above,with single stone mullion at centre and 2 timber mullions further dividing into 4 either side.Tripartite dormer window off-centre in slope of roof,with small timber open pediment.Attached circular tower at SE angle,rising above wallhead of main elevations,with band course at eaves,fish-scale slated swept conical roof and bracketted overhanging eaves,scalloped flashing and decorative finial at apex. S ELEVATION:2-bay.canted 6-light projecting window bay to left,with parapet;4-light window above at 1st floor (single masonry mullion,2 timber mullions flanking);blind bay to right,with blind recessed ashlar panel close to ground;bipartite (timber mullion) at 1st floor;central timber dormer with open pediment as on E elevation.

Historic Environment Scotland is responsible for designating sites and places at the national level. These designations are Scheduled monuments, Listed buildings, Inventory of gardens and designed landscapes and Inventory of historic battlefields.
