Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay hotel, at end of

terrace. S elevation harled; E elevation painted rubble. Painted margins, quoin strips and base course.

S (MAIN STREET) ELEVATION: deep-set door at centre, with fanlight; cavetto splayed doorcase; moulded sign board above door, with modern canopy attached. Regularly disposed fenestration. 3 gabled and ball-finialled dormer windows above bays.

E ELEVATION: window, foreshortened from door, to right, and window to left of centre at ground floor. Window to right at 1st floor. 2-storey lean-to extension adjoined to right, with window at 1st floor; modern flat-roofed extension adjoined at ground and projecting to E.

W ELEVATION: adjoined to No 29 Main Street (see separate listing).

Plate glass glazing in sash and case windows; 4-pane glazing in dormer windows to left and centre; variety of glazing patterns to E elevation. Red sandstone coped skews. Broad gablehead stacks, rendered to W, painted rubble to E. Graded grey-green slates. Red sandstone ridging. No cans.

No 31 Main Street is shown on the "Plan of the village of Glenluce"

of 1840.
