Appeals to Scottish Ministers are processed on their behalf by the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA).Appeal forms and guidance notes are available at The Planning System in Scotland on the Scottish Government website. The DPEA publishes all information and correspondence relating to appeals on the DPEA website. We only publish documents when we have been instructed by DPEA to make changes to a designation following an appeal decision. About Clearance Application

Information in this record is about an application for Scheduled Monument Clearance.

Most works, including repair, on scheduled monuments require Scheduled Monument Consent. However, for departments and agencies of the UK and Scottish Governments undertaking works to monuments in Scotland there is a parallel system known as Scheduled Monument Clearance. This is governed by the same principles and procedures as the Scheduled Monument Consent processes (Scottish Historic Environment Policy section 3.25).

In all cases proposals are assessed by us. Such applications will normally be determined within eight weeks of receipt of the application. Contact Us for application forms and further information.

Applications for Scheduled Monument Clearance and the decisions taken on those applications are published on our online Portal. You can also view this information at our principal offices. Contact Us about this.
