1836, 1884. 2 storey with attic, asymmetrical villa with Baronial

and Jacobethan details. Harled with sandstone margins and dressings. Chamfered arrises. String courses. Base course. Corbel cornice. Hoodmoulds.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2 blocks, 4-bay block of 1836 to right with Baronial porch and 3-bay block to outer right re-worked 1884. 1836 block, gable of 2 bays to outer left, windows symmetrically disposed those to inner bay blind, string course stepped as hoodmould over 1st floor windows. Pinnacled turrets on roll-moulded corbelling at corners. 2 lower bays to right, gabled dormerheads, dormerheads advanced and supported on corbels. Advanced ashlar porch immediately to right of gable, octagonal corner buttresses with conical caps and

ball finials; crenellated parapet supported on billetted cornice;

shield at centre of parapet. Roll-moulded door surround. 2-leaf

outer door with Gothic panelling, vestibule door has 3 lower panels with upper glazed (fixed 15-pane glazing). 1884 block slightly advanced to right. 3 bays, bipartite windows at ground and 1st floor symmetrically disposed, those at upper level larger, string course stepped as hoodmould over 1st floor windows, date plaque 1884 over centre window. 2 bipartite dormerheads symmetrically disposed at attic level, ashlar parapet between supported on corbel cornice, mansard roof rises behind.

W ELEVATION: advanced gabled bay off-centre to right with full-height canted window at centre, quatrefoil panelled frieze between ground and 1st floor, crenellated parapet, blind niche in gablehead.

3 symmetrical bays to right, bipartites with hoodmoulds, gabled dormerheads, centre dormerhead wider. 2-bay block recessed to left, tripartite window at ground outer left, bipartite dormerhead, bipartite window at 1st floor inner bay. Curved ashlar entrance in re-entrant angle; segmental- headed, 2-leaf, 6-panelled door with plate-glass fanlight, chamfered arris, parapet on billetted cornice.

N ELEVATION: painted render. Advanced gable to outer right, 2 windows symmetrically disposed at ground, window at centre of gablehead. Lower recessed jamb to left built against gable. Piend-roofed block to outer left.

Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate pitched and piended roof. Ashlar coping to skews and skewblocks, dormerheads treated similarly. Corniced ridge and apex stacks, octagonal cans with billetted cornics. Square cast-iron rainwater heads decorated with floral motif.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

TERRACE: to W of house. Ashlar balustraded parapet with square die and cushion coping. Stone steps lead to terraced garden at either end of balustrade linked by crenellated terrace wall.

BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: sloping stugged coursed sandstone with ashlar coping. Stugged piers with corniced pyramidal caps.

Linnburn was originally built by Samuel McCall, a Glasgow merchant.
