Late medieval church in origin with much rebuilding in 16th century and consolidation, now roofless. Rubble-built, incorporating numerous earlier stones, particularly in door jambs on north wall. 2 doors

(1 blocked) and single blocked window to south elevation. East gable with central buttress: base of bellcote over west gable. Some interesting memorials both inside and outside church, dating from 16th century.

Stone-work patterns suggest that the building was originally narrower; that the gables were heightened and extended to north, and the north wall demolished and re-erected a few feet beyond original wall. Until 1646, the parish was known as Abercrombie; in 1649 Newark lands were incorporated, and the parish was re-styled "Abercrombie with St Monans". This building was abandoned after St Monans became the Parish Church.
