Description

Archibald Cleland contracting mason. Built 1777-8 (dated

1777, 1828, 1870, 1965 on modern door lintel), 2-storey 3-bay

former manse, built on slope, with basement to north east.

Rubble-built with ashlar dressings, all painted, with

contrasting margins. South west elevation: (rebuilt) central

doorway; 12-pane sashes; band course between floors;

cornice; blocking course; end stacks on ramped plinths;

piended and platform roof with graded slates. North east

elevation also 3 bays; 2 basement doors; single dormer with

finial and ornamental barge boards. Simple

gatepiers; curved quadrant walls with coping; all ashlar.

Outbuilding to south.

Statement of Special Interest

In 1828 the original wings were removed and an addition (now

removed) was made to the east possibly to plan by John

Smallwood, architect at Drumlanrig.
